God’s everlasting covenant
An excerpt from Genesis 17:5b-7 (NRSV)
I have made you the ancestor of a multitude of nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your offspring after you, throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.
Reflection from Mary Maraist,
St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church:
Abraham upheld his covenant with God with faith and trust. Now, am I upholding my Covenant with God, through Jesus Christ? Or am I resting at roadside, weary from today’s world? Have I let my gratitude for His saving Presence in my life grow dim? What better way to refresh the Covenant than consent to walk with Jesus on the road to the Cross. I look forward to this more meaningful and prayerful journey through Scripture. And too, with the real hope of a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. When dawn comes, I will wait and watch for the Light and Love of the Risen Christ.
