Easter Sunday 2023

View PDF - The Easter Season begins with the Great Vigil and extends through the Great Fifty Days, including the day of Pentecost. It is a season of great joy and celebration of the mystery of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. Many penitential elements common to our worship throughout the year are eliminated or subdued. We forego the collect for purity, confession and absolution – because the Lenten season and Holy Week have had plentiful opportunities for introspection, penitence, confession, and reconciliation. The season of abundance is symbolized by heightened elements of joy and praise, including singing as many elements as possible, elegant white hangings, abundant flowers, bells at high points of the liturgy, and abundant Alleluias!

All of our music is covered under our CCLI license #11167839.

Easter Vigil 2023

Easter Vigil 2023

View PDF - The Great Vigil of Easter is the pinnacle of the Christian liturgical year. As Leonel Mitchell notes, “This ancient rite leads us from death to life with Christ through fire, light, word, water, bread, and wine. A new fire is kindled, a great candle is lighted, by its light the Bible is read, prayer and praise are offered, and we celebrate the Easter sacraments of baptism and eucharist.” We hear the great stories that shape our faith as the people of God, and celebrate our release from bondage to death, and freedom to new life through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. In this rite, the mystery of Easter comes alive, and we are a part in it.

Palm Sunday 2023

View PDF - Today is officially The Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday. Since the mid 300s, Christians have celebrated Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the Sunday before Easter. By the 12th century, the custom of blessing palms and having a procession to begin the worship was accepted everywhere. The weather in Chicago was nice enough that we could process around the church, first time three years.

Christmas Day 2022

View PDF - At this service, we enter into the awe, wonder, and joy of the birth of our Savior. On this occasion, the whole world rejoices with exultant voices joined with angels to celebrate the miracle of God incarnate. Our worship today is filled with reminders of God’s presence among us: joyful hymns and music of praise just as the angels sang to announce the birth; candles and light to remind us of Christ’s light in our broken world; ringing bells to call our attention to the mystery of Christ’s birth, death, resurrection, and ascension; an exuberantly decorated space to remind us of God’s abundance; and white vestments and altar dressings to proclaim God’s pure, holy, and vulnerable presence in our lives and in the world.

Christmas Eve 2022

Christmas Eve 2022

View PDF - Luke’s story of Christ’s birth takes us on a journey with a young couple who has been through an incredibly confusing and challenging time. They arrive in an out-of-the-way village after traveling a long distance from their own home, and find themselves without a place to stay. Mary gives birth to the son of God in less-than-ideal conditions. In our imaginations, she is surrounded by the warmth, smells, and noise of many animals as her labor companions. The shepherds asleep in the fields are awakened by startling brightness and angels singing God’s praises and announcing the birth of Jesus. The announcement brings awe, wonder, and joy.

Service Times

Onsite AND Online worship - at the same time, at 9:30am starting in Advent!

God willing and supply chains cooperating, technology accessibility will be installed in our worship space in time for us to incorporate all of our worship into one service on Sunday mornings. The new cameras, sound system, and screen will allow our zoom worshippers to continue to participate and lead worship, and our onsite worshippers to see them and share in the sacred space together.

The new time (9:30am Central time) takes into account the desires and needs of the diverse part of the body of Christ that comes together as StGs Sunday worship community. We will try this time out for a season or two and see how it settles into our rhythm of life.

Welcome to St. Gregory's – virtually! We know that the church is not the building in which we worship – but the people who worship and share God’s love with the world. In this time of social distancing, we will practice connectivity in new and powerful ways, for we know we all are connected as one in the Lord. Life is very different than we knew it to be, and yet our anchor in God’s love remains the same. All shall be well!

We are people from all walks of life and all parts of Chicagoland. Most people who worship here didn’t grow up Episcopalian, but seek to radiate God’s grace by gathering community and sharing joy and hope in the world. Join us however works for you: participate in Zoom worship, follow our livestream, help us give to the community, read with our kids, or even be a pen pal to get to know someone new.

Online Worship

Everyone is experiencing the Pandemic in different ways. Many people are experiencing deeper loss than they ever have before, and we are here to support them during this time. If you are experiencing loss and grief, we are here to pray with you, talk with you, and help financially.

The Body of Christ exists to care for each other. Sometimes we can be generous, and sometimes we receive generosity. Both are equal acts of faith and grace, and one cannot exist without the other.
