For what do you thirst?
An excerpt from Isaiah 55:1-11 (NRSV)
Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters;
and you that have no money, come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Reflection from Jennifer Ould,
Trinity Episcopal Church:
My favorite of the Easter Vigil readings is one that is often left out: Isaiah 55:1-11. The reading begins with the words, “Come, everyone who thirst! Come to the waters!”
The reason I love it so is the breadth of it’s invitation. It is for everyone, and the only requirement to drink? Be thirsty.
I don’t know that my soul has ever not felt thirsty, but it’s easy to get confused about what I’m thirsty for. Is it rest I thirst for, or escape? Is it love, or affirmation, or acceptance? Is it security or faith? With the Psalmist, I suspect that what I am longing or thirsting for can always actually be found in God.

and I long for you,
