Condemnation-free zone
An excerpt from 2 John 8:10-11 (NRSV)
“Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, sir.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.”
Reflection from Barb Schaper,
St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church:
What this passage says to me is to treat others as you would like to be treated. We all sin and yet it is easy to look at another person and point out their sin. I’ve been demeaned many times and when I ask the person why they made the hurtful comment, often the person will say, “I didn’t really mean it.” This doesn’t take away the hurt feelings. We are all going through this life together and we don’t know everything that is going on with other people in our lives. We never know how our words might resonate in someone else, either unkind or kind. We need to give each other Grace and lift them up.
