Dear ones, Our hearts break as we watch the news...
Dear ones,
Our hearts break as we watch the news of the unfolding tragedy at the Highland Park parade today. If you are in the area (including Deerfield), please continue to keep your doors and windows locked and stay inside while the shooter is still at large. While we believe StGs worshippers are all safe, we know that at least 25 other people were shot and countless others witnessed this horrific act. This is our community and we are not ok. We hold each other through this tragedy.
Area clergy are working together to respond to this horrific act of violence to our families and our community. Tonight at 7pm, Trinity will host a vigil of lament for the mass shooting on Zoom because the buildings are still locked down. You can access it here: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81996049782?pwd=ZG4vY1YwbGZkMklXdG1CTW9VYzNzUT09
I will keep you posted on other opportunities to pray together as we get the clear to go out and as the situation unfolds.
In the meantime, we pray:
God of all mercy, we sit in stunned sorrow at the senseless shooting in Highland Park. We grieve with the families who lost loved ones. We weep with those who were shot, with their families, and with all who witnessed and are now experiencing the trauma of this day. Amid the unthinkable terror and sorrow, we look to you to tether us to hope. We pray for those first responders and others who continue to respond. Guide us all to love and care for each other, to hold each other in our sorrow, and to work for justice and peace. In the name of Christ who liberates us for a life of love, we pray. Amen.
