Fall on your knees… and rise
And I will rise when He calls my name,
no more sorrow, no more pain.
I will rise on eagle’s wings.
Before my God fall on my knees and rise. I will rise.

While I admit I’m not typically drawn to contemporary Christian music, when I came across the choral arrangement of Chris Tomlin’s “I Will Rise” that we’ll be singing this Sunday, I was immediately hooked.
I love the idea of falling on your knees in order to rise, and the way the music (through its repeated ascending scales) echoes that imagery.
I think it’s all too easy to fall into the trap of constant one-upmanship, of the idea that we must always be striving to do more and be bigger and better than others around us. But when we recognize that we are all God’s children – perfectly imperfect, humble in our limited understanding, learning from our failures… that is when we discover that we can practice resurrection every day by working together to lift each other up.
