All Is Peace

Every boot of the thundering warriors,
and every garment rolled in blood
will be burned, fuel for the fire. …

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. …
He will strike the violent with the rod of his mouth;
by the breath of his lips he will vanquish the wicked. …

They won’t harm or destroy anywhere on my holy mountain.

the Prophet Isaiah, verses from chapters 9 and 11

My friends, I pray that your Christmas and all your days are full of that peace which exceeds all understanding and that is promised to us in the birth of Jesus. I am so thankful for each of you — you show me the face of Christ every day in your generosity to our neighbors and your compassion to one another.

In this season when Joy is born to us: let us remember and pray for those in sorrow, grief, and suffering.

In this season when Hope is born to us: let us remember and pray for those in need, those close to ruin, the unhoused, the prisoners, the strangers, and the exiled.

In this season when Love is born to us: let us remember and pray for our enemies, our opponents, and those who differ from us.

In this season when Peace is born to us: let us pray for those for whom violence is a constant presence, by duty or by circumstance. And let us pray, always, for the peace of the whole world.

God bless you this Christmas and in the New Year.
