What does it mean to forgive?
An excerpt from Matthew 18:21-22 (NRSV)
Peter came and said to Jesus, “Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.”
Reflection from Victor Przysiezny,
Trinity Episcopal Church:
The love we are invited, called, and challenged to by Jesus is not a Sunday morning moment. Our love may be rejected by many who “sin against me”, including church members, people of different beliefs, enemies, friends, family members, and even ourselves. Though ending our attempts at love and forgiveness may sometimes seem reasonable, the love that God calls us to knows no end, knows no limit, even in the face of a seemingly endless barrage of sins. This seemingly impossible calling can only be made possible through our faith in the love and forgiveness we have through Jesus.
