Reflect on Jesus’s Parable
An excerpt from Matthew 21:33–43 (NRSV)
The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is amazing in our eyes.
Reflection from Hall Healy,
The Church of St. Elisabeth:
“The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone…” How many times have I done something in my life that was not “approved”, was “rejected”? Many. But, those occasions served as learning experiences, encouraging me to revise what I was doing, before ultimately succeeding. This passage brings to mind the recent death of Sidney Poitier. His obituary said that as an émigré to this country, without being able to speak English, he decided to become an actor. He tried out for a bit part at a local theater. The director told him to get out, or to take a job as janitor there. He took that job on condition that the director would teach him acting, ultimately allowing Poitier to become a cornerstone of Hollywood.

MUSIC
“The Voice of Joy”
from Elgar’s The Kingdom
“The Kingdom” is a lesser-known choral masterwork that details the lives of Christ’s apostles, focusing especially on Pentecost. It’s a beautiful piece, so listening to the full work is highly recommended!
