An excerpt from John 1:1-5 (NRSV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.
Reflection from Leigh Stewart:
Happy Christmas! We recently had the shortest day of the year, the one with the most darkness of the year. We are living through a time where it can seem sometimes like darkness is overcoming us: many people feel loneliness, anger, fear, despair, death in the soul. As Christians, we believe that through prayer God shines His light on those feelings; a light that makes visible the facts that God’s Word created our life, has always been with us, is with us RIGHT NOW, and will be with us for all tomorrows - and that light will never be overcome by darkness. Now that’s good news! So have a very happy Christmas!
