Good news – Messiah is born
An excerpt from Luke 2:(1-7), 8-20 (NRSV)
But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for see – I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people. To you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.’
Reflection from Anne Jolly:
Angels, shepherds, the Holy Family – we know this story, and these words melt into warm familiarity when we hear them. But have you ever noticed that the angel says “I bring YOU good news of great joy FOR ALL the people”? We are given the Good News, but that news isn’t just for us to know and bask in – it is news for everyone. Implicit in this sharing of news is the insistence that we GO and share it. Our Savior was born, lived, and died and rose again – our sins are forgiven - death is not forever – and we are loved abundantly. How will you share that good news?
For further study and prayer, the readings assigned for today are:
Isaiah 62:6-12; Psalm 97; Titus 3:4-7; Luke 2:(1-7), 8-20

“Love Came Down at Christmas”
Poem by Christina Rossetti, Music by Leo Sowerby
“Love came down at Christmas, Love all lovely, Love divine;
Love was born at Christmas, stars and angels gave the sign.
Worship we the Godhead, Love incarnate, Love divine;
Worship we our Jesus: but wherewith for sacred sign?
Love shall be our token, Love be yours and love be mine;
Love to God and all men, Love for plea and gift and sign.”
