Happy New Year!
Jan 22 Youth Group
Youth Group resumes as normal on Jan. 22 with the middle school meeting between 5-6:30 and the high school meeting from 7-8:30.
St. G's Jan 8 Joint YG:
St. Gregory's Feb 10 Youth Lock In
Because we had to reschedule the Sr. High Lock In, all will be able to attend the Feb 10 Lock in. This will be a very fun and exciting event, as we have not had a lock in a few years. We will meet at the church at 5:45 and then go to EsKape for bowling, dinner, and laser tag. We will head back to the church for fun games, some reflection, and then, of course, late night movies!
In addition to letting me know that you will attend the Lock In, please bring with you a pillow, sleeping bag, toiletries, and overnight clothes. The cost of the trip is $15 per person, which students can bring the night of the Lock In. Finally, please bring the permission slip on the night of the Lock In which can be found outside the Youth Ministry Office.
Youth Retreat
St. Gregory's Youth will have a retreat to Christ Campus and Spiritual Center in Joliet, IL on March 3 and 4. We will leave the church at 9 am and plan to arrive in time to set up for lunch and afternoon activities. We will return home on Sunday afternoon. All youth from grades 6 to 12 are welcome to attend. We will have time to grow together spiritually and just to have some fun as a group. The Youth Commission will cover the costs for this event so please do consider going. Just let me know and I will sign you up for the retreat.

During the winter the high school and middle school will each have their own separate lock in. We will be going to EsKape for bowling, laser tag, and dinner and then returning to the church for fun games, reflection time, and some movies before we all go to bed.
High School Lock in: Jan 20
Middle School Lock in: Feb. 10
Joint YG Retreat
The retreat will be in the Spring, but now is the time to start thinking about it and to mark it off on your calendars. We will be going to Joliet IL at Christ Campus and Spiritual Center on Saturday March 3 and returning Sunday afternoon March 4. This is Pulaski Day weekend, so students will have Monday off from school.
MISSION TRIP!
All high school, including those who will be entering into 9th grade next year and graduating seniors, are eligible to participate in St. Gregory’s youth mission trip to St. Louis next summer. The Youth Commission will be subsidizing most of the cost, but each student will be responsible for $165, with a $60 deposit due by Jan. 6. Please do let me know if you plan to attend ASAP.
Dates for the trip: July 29 – Aug. 4, 2012
The Claremont Crew

Last Sunday the St. Gregory’s Youth went to the Claremont to decorate the doors for the Holiday season. We had a great experience meeting with the residents and sharing in the joy of the Holiday season with others. Some of the doors were really quite lavish, peppered with falling snowflakes, Merry Christmas spelled out in wrapping paper, with lintel made candy canes, and some covered with giant snowmen. Needless to say, we had a great time being creative and being together as we shared the Holiday spirit with others!

Dear Parents and Students,
The pumpkin patch has ended with another record breaking year! Altogether we sold $14,400 worth of pumpkins! Thank you, families, for all of your service during the patch. While the pumpkin patch is a major fundraiser for our youth, it lasts all month and requires an immense commitment for our church. Nevertheless, we did a really good job filling up all the time slots and being energetic about our youth ministry all throughout October.
In connection to the pumpkin patch, the youth will be hosting a coffee hour on Nov. 20 in order to thank the congregation for their participation in making the patch a success. We have made out thank you cards and a thank you sign, all of which the youth have signed. We will need youth volunteers to help host the coffee hour. It will entail setting up the coffee, serving the coffee, cutting the coffee cake or other food, and clean up.
We began November with a special joint YG. As a group we went shopping for the Christmas gift basket and we had a really good turnout. We were able to buy all the gifts for our family, so thank you parents and students for your participation! We will be wrapping the gifts at respective youth groups on Nov. 20.
A couple of things to keep in mind:
There will be no youth group Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 27).
On Dec. 6 we will be going to Claremont Nursing home for Christmas decorating and eating out for dinner. Students will need to let me know if they will attend so that we can accommodate driving.

Dear Parents and Students,
There is so much going on for the St. Gregory’s Youth Program right now! Indeed, we are entering into the second month of YG, in which we will be focusing on thinking about and communicating our beliefs. We have had great participation during our Sunday YG meetings and I am looking forward to the month of October.
In addition, throughout the month of October we will be continuing our annual Pumpkin Patch. The Pumpkin Patch has been so important for our youth program over the past several years. Due to the commitment of this congregation to the youth, we raised $13,500 worth of pumpkins last year—that’s $6,000 more dollars raised than when we started in 2007! This year can be another record breaking year for us. But we need your help! If each youth and an adult from the youth family can sign up at least 1 time during the month, that would be over thirty time slots filled—that’s almost half of all the time slots. The youth can help particularly on the weekends and/or after school. The 5-7pm time slot is one in which we are in particular need of volunteers. So bring your homework to the patch and please sign up to help continue one of our most important youth ministry fundraisers!
Finally, this year the youth will be sponsoring a family for the Christmas Gift Basket for Cathedral Shelter. We are signed up for a family of three kids and a single mother. As a group we can really make a difference for this family. We will be going shopping for the family on Nov. 6 after eating pizza at the church. I have a sign up sheet right outside the youth minister’s office door for whoever would like to participate. You can also send me an email, and I can write your name down. Each student who participates needs to contribute at least $10-15, and as a group we will purchase gifts for the family. We will be wrapping the gifts together on Nov. 20. This will both a fun and meaningful experience, so join us in the group giving!
Pumpkin Patch: 10 am -7 pm Sat. and Sun; 12-7 p.m. M-F
Christmas Gift Basket: Nov. 6 Pizza and shopping (5-8pm); Nov. 20 Gift Wrapping
Youth Group: MS: Sunday 5-6:30 p.m.; HS: Sunday 7-8:30 p.m.

Dear Parents and Students,
The new youth group year has officially begun! This past Sunday was our first youth group meeting for the year. It was a joint session, including both Jr. and Sr. high, with dinner. In addition to being our first youth group meeting of the year there were other notable beginnings. This was my first time leading youth group at St. Gregory’s and the students are currently adjusting to the new school year which began towards the end of August.
Since there are a number of different beginnings, “Beginnings” was the topic of Sunday’s youth group. In addition to activities, we talked about different beginnings in our lives and how we adjust to them. We looked at several examples in the Bible of different beginnings that serve as good references for our own transitional growth.
Reflective Question: How is God present in our beginnings? Who has God placed in our lives to support us and help us to grow as we begin anew?
Bible Beginnings: Gen. 1:1 (Creation); Gen. 9:1-17 (Noah); Gen. 12:1-3 (call of Abraham); Exodus 3 (call of Moses to lead Israelites out of Egypt); Exodus 34 (Ten Commandments); 1 Samuel 9 (Saul as King); 2 Chronicles 36:15 (Fall of Jerusalem and Diaspora). NT: Matt, Mk, Lk, Jn (Birth, Ministry, and death of Christ); Acts (Formation of the early church).
Announcements
Pumpkin Patch
Pumpkin season is approaching! The St. Gregory’s Pumpkin Patch has been for several years a fundamental component to the funding of the youth program. It is one of our most successful fundraisers, supporting youth group activities and events for building community and growing with God. Additionally, the whole sale is part of the ministry at St. Gregory’s of working together to welcome others and to share the love and grace of God. So please take part in the experience by volunteering!
Pumpkins are set to arrive on Oct. 8 at 9 am. We need as many of the youth and other volunteers as possible to sign up for unpacking the pumpkins from the truck on arrival day. The last day of Pumpkin Patch sales will be Oct. 31.
Sign up sheets for Pumpkin Patch are in the orange binder on the table outside of Founders Hall and the church office.
Additionally, we need volunteers, both youth and adult, to sign up for shifts to sell pumpkins throughout the month of October. The big orange binder will be out outside Founders Hall filled with sign up sheets. Please try to sign up for the most immediate dates, if possible.
