St. Gregory's Preschool

Mission

St. Gregory's Preschool was established in 2006 as a way for our parishioners to give back to the community we love. Our inclusive and nurturing environment blends academic progress with creativity, social and moral development, and play.

St. Gregory's Preschool offers a safe, fun-filled, and academically complete early education experience that is loved by children, appreciated by parents, and respected by local school teachers and administrators.

Preschool at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, Deerfield, IL 60015

Learning Experience

St. Gregory's Preschool program features:

  • Small class sizes that provide individual attention and instruction
  • Experienced and dedicated child development professionals
  • A structured curriculum based on contemporary best practices for pre-K and kindergarten education

Our program serves students from Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Gurnee, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, and Wheeling, Illinois. Preschool parents work at nearby corporations including Abbott, Discover, Hyatt, Takeda, Underwriters Laboratories, Walgreens, and Wolters Kluwer.

Preschool

We teach The Creative Curriculum for Preschool Program® program which is used by Deerfield District 109. Jolly Phonics® gives each child a strong foundation in reading and literacy, while our balanced curriculum includes valuable and fun math and science experiences. With regularly scheduled time for free play, our program helps foster growth, nurture success, and build self-esteem on several physical, social, and academic levels.

Kindergarten Enrichment

Our Kindergarten Enrichment program is designed to prepare students for a successful start in first grade. We promote academic development through additional learning opportunities in math, science, reading and language arts and nurture social development in the same caring environment provided to our preschool students.

Access to Deerfield local District 109 schools is convenient, too. Our preschool staff personally and safely escort Wilmot Elementary students to and from school, and bus service for children at Kipling, Walden and South Park elementary schools is available through Deerfield District 109 for an additional fee.

Staff

St. Gregory's team of experienced child development professionals is led by a fully credentialed director who holds a master's degree in early childhood education as well as a teaching certificate from the State of Illinois. Our staff members:

  • Hold bachelor's degrees in education or psychology
  • Average 15 years' experience working with children
  • Bring extensive professional experience
  • Are committed to continuing education

St. Gregory's Preschool is licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and exceeds their standards for teacher qualification.

Program Structure

Our multi-aged program is designed to nurture the overall development of the individual child in an atmosphere of sharing, inclusion and support.

The curriculum has been created to provide separate, age-appropriate lessons targeted to the developmental needs of growing children. Both kindergartners and preschools share classroom space and teachers, enjoying socially important and fun opportunities to play and learn together.

Supervised free play is scheduled daily, and circle time, songs, and stories are an essential part of the program. Large motor skill development activities are integrated through indoor play in our large multi-purpose area and outdoor play at nearby Mitchell Park.
