All members of St. Gregory's are encouraged to discern their gifts and volunteer to participate in the on-going ministries of St. Gregory's Church. In addition to serving on the vestry, volunteering to teach church school, and participating in the activities of the parish, there are a number of specific volunteer opportunities for ministry:
Acolytes
- Children age 8 as well as adults serve at our worship services, including the reading of the lesson and the Prayers of the People
Altar Guild
- Member prepare the sanctuary for every service at the altar; they are responsible for cleaning silver, candles, dusting and vacuuming sanctuary, straightening nave and pews, laundering and ironing vestments.
Archives
- Members serving in this ministry maintain historical and financial records.
Birthday Card Ministry
- A volunteer prepares birthday cards which are sent to each child, who is also prayed for by name at the Sunday services the week of their birthday.
Bread Ministry
- A volunteer prepares and delivers a loaf of bread to welcome visitors and newcomers.
Buildings and Grounds Management Team
- This team of volunteers is responsible for general maintenance as well as major improvements to the Church and rectories.
Choir and Children's Choir
- All adults who love to sing are welcome to sing with our church choir. The choir sings at the 9 o'clock worship service as well as on special occasions. The choir rehearses weekly. In addition to the adult choir, a choir composed of young children sings on special occasions. For more information about our choir, contact our director of music, Jim Collins. - The Gregorys is our worship band which plays monthly at our 9 am Contemporary Service as well as for other special occasions.
Coffee Hour Hosting and Sunday mornings
- Every Sunday morning, we have a coffee hour and fellowship between the 9 o'clock and 11 o'clock services. Church members and organizations take turns hosting the coffee hour.
Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and readers at Sunday Services
- Church members are trained to assist with the administration of the chalice, reading of the Prayers of the People, and leading the congregation in the Nicene Creed.
Ushers and Junior Ushers
- Ushers greet people before the services, hand out bulletins, take up the offering and present the bread and wine. Children first grade and up assist the ushers with these tasks at the 9 o'clock Sunday service.
Funeral Reception Hosting
- Church members who serve on this committee help by providing baked goods and serving coffee and tea at receptions following funerals in the church.
Library volunteers
- St. Gregory's maintains the Sally Craig Memorial Library providing books, magazines, multi-media resources, and a computer with internet access for church members. Volunteers help catalog and maintain these resources.
Multi-media volunteers
- Volunteers with technical skills prepare the screen and LCD projector for our services and presentations, create and run PowerPoint presentations for worship services, adult forums, and special presentations, update and maintain our website.
